Become a market mogul with the 11 Best Tycoon Games to Play in 2017!

For those who enjoy building, economics, and management, tycoon games are immensely satisfying. Even for those who are not interested in those subjects, the lure of becoming successful draws them in. Countless hours can be leisurely spent in an attempt to climb to the top, complete campaigns, and finish objectives.

In the list below are eleven of the most entertaining games to play this year. These will satisfy boredom and provide incredible entertainment. They are perfect for after a long day at work, letting players relax and immerse into a different world.

1. Game Dev Tycoon

In this game, players are able to replay the history of the video game industry. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to be a game developer, this is the perfect game for you. From the humble beginnings of a basement, you must evolve into a market leader.

Players decide what kinds of games to create and what the game will focus on. The more games are developed, the more options are available, and the more skill the player has. You can hire staff and create a team that will help you in your attempt to rise to the top of the industry by assisting you in making better, more complex games.

As history progresses and different gaming systems are available, licenses for the consuls can be bought. Eventually, there is the option of opening an R&D lab and a hardware lab.

2. RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe

As perhaps the most famous of the tycoon games, this classic is highly revered in gaming circles around the world. In this game, you are allowed to build and manage your own amusement park.

The goal is to complete an objective in a determined scenario. For example, the objective might be to have a certain amount of money by a certain date. When this goal is reached, the next scenario is then available.

In the deluxe version, there is the added bonus of two expansions—Corkscrew Follies and Loopy Landscapes— which enrich gameplay. These expansions bring new themes, rides, and scenery into the picture.

3. Parkitect

This new creation by Texel Raptor shares the same concept as the RollerCoaster Tycoon franchise. Just like in the well-known series, players can build parks and customize their own rides.

For now, it is still in active development, although an alpha phase was recently released. There are no objectives yet as only a sandbox version is available. The graphics are three dimensional like those of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, but the layout is similar to RollerCoaster Tycoon 2.

Many hope that Parkitect will bring back the style of the older roller coaster games but provide the modern element, and thus fans anxiously await a full release.

Choose whether you will spend ticket sales on more rides or on concession stands

4. Prison Architect

Like other tycoon games, Prison Architect involves construction and management. However, it has a darker twist.

Players must build a prison from the ground up and attempt to keep the occupants from rioting. To do this, the proper staff must be hired and the prison must be designed correctly. It is even possible to send prisoners to reform programs so that there will be less repeat offenders.

Prisoners are ranked by severity of crime, and you can chose which severity you will accept. You will be paid the most for those with the worst crimes, but those are the prisoners who are likely to cause trouble. Each prisoner has a unique biography. Most gamers enjoy using the sandbox mode, declaring that the campaigns are not as enjoyable.

It is difficult to figure out how to build the prison at first, but once you have conquered that, the game is addicting. The layout is top-down, two dimensional, but also has a three dimensional option. It is also possible to zoom in and out.

5. Software Inc.

This is a creative take on traditional building games. The goal is to create a software empire from scratch. One has to begin with creating the offices and layout of the software headquarters, and then turn to hiring talented employees.

Employees can be trained to increase their skills and talents. The building layout affects how employees work and function.

Outpace the competition, and perhaps you will be able to buy them out. Currently Software Inc. is a Steam Early Access game, which means the developer is continuing to work on it, and is attempting to create a better version. Although the full version has not been released, reviewers continue to give Software Inc. stunning reviews for the compelling gameplay and beautiful scenery.

Design a structure that will let employees thrive

Hire the best workers for the best production

6. Railroad Tycoon 3

The goal of Railroad Tycoon 3 is to complete a railroad within a limited time. To accomplish that objective, players have to plan out tracks, train schedules, and manage finances. They also must decide what cities to run through and what cargo to carry.

Unlike the first and second editions, Railroad Tycoon 3 has the extra third dimension with more realistic graphics. The camera movement is also an upgrade.

Campaigns take place in Europe, the USA, the world, and the future. There are also sixteen scenarios set in several continents. This provides many different choices for players.

Unlike other tycoon games, this game has a multiplayer option.

7. Mad Games Tycoon

Just like Game Dev Tycoon, Mad Games Tycoon focuses on the video game industry. However, here there is the options of how to develop one’s company—through video game development, console development, or engine building

It also differs in that the goal is to create a corporation. The game lets players build each room of their headquarters. It is also possible to hire employees and train them.

Even though it is a Steam Early Access game, many gamers rave about how enjoyable Mad Games Tycoon is. There is also great excitement over the fact that the developers continue to improve and update it.

Begin small, but attempt great things

Evolve into the top corperation

8. Empire TV Tycoon

Television seems an unlikely subject for a tycoon game, but reading this game’s reviews quickly shows that it is feasible. The objective of Empire TV Tycoon is to become an economic powerhouse through wise decisions in running a TV channel. Thus the content, workers, and advertisers must be carefully chosen.

What shows fit the audience? What movies will they enjoy? What actor do they want to see? These are all questions to be asked when one is trying to rise to the top.

Pick programs that audiences will enjoy

Become a filmmaker

9. RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Platinum

Like its predecessors, this edition focuses on theme park building. The gameplay is similar that of the earlier versions. However, the graphics are radically better, and are in three dimensions instead of two.

A new feature lets gamers ride in the coasters and experience them from a first person viewpoint. This way, you can see exactly what visitors to your park will see. It is especially fun when you ride your own roller coaster creation.

In the platinum edition, there is also the added fun of the Soaked! and Wild! expansions. With these, there is the option of adding water slides and wild animals.

You can even customize your own firework show with RollerCoaster Tycoon 3’s MixMaster. One third of the scenarios are available from the onset, while the others must be unlocked.

Experience rides for yourself

Can you thrill your guests?

10. Automation - The Car Company Tycoon Game

Another successful Steam Early Access release, Automation was astonishingly produced by a three person team. It is the perfect game for car enthusiasts and those interested in mechanics.

Players must start from the ground up and decide what type manufacturer they will be. Will they attempt to become a mass merchandiser, or will they stay small and create designer cars? The game allows players to create cars and their engines, allowing for freedom in vehicle customization.

Another positive quality is that the speed of time is adjustable. Future updates will implement more of the tycoon elements, but for now play is mostly centered around automobile design and construction.

Design an engine from scratch

11. RollerCoaster Tycoon 2: Triple Thrill Pack

This is the easiest to play in the RollerCoaster Tycoon series, and some critics even rate it higher than RollerCoaster Tycoon 3. The second edition is actually quite similar to the first edition of the game, but has better graphics and fixed bugs. Also, instead of having to unlock scenarios by completing the first one, all the options for gameplay are available from the onset.

You can decide to start from scratch, or add on to an existing park. This version includes five Six Flags parks and twenty five Six Flags rides from real life.

If you are brave enough, you can even attempt to build your own rollercoaster. With the roller coaster builder, you can choose the track and determine whether it will be high, medium, or low intensity. The parks are completely customisable in that you can change the landscape, add uniquely themed scenery, and name the rides.
