10. Baldur’s Gate

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition Trailer

After witnessing the death of his father, a young hero from Candlekeep travels to seek out the cure for the iron shortage that is causing the southern Sword Coast’s economy to plummet.

Set in the Forgotten Realms Dungeons & Dragons, the Baldur’s Gate series is a popular role-playing video game originally released in 1998. The first Baldur’s Gate and its sequel are highly rated on Metacritic and Steam. It’s no wonder we are begging for a sequel to this series.

Paths to new towns.

For many years, there has been talk about Baldur’s Gate 3. However, the development of such a game has been reportedly cancelled. Instead, we got Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition; an updated version of the already cherished game.

And it was great, but still, we were hoping for a continuation of the original story that we love.

But who knows, maybe one day, inspiration will strike the developer and they will pick it back up again and give us what we want! Baldur’s Gate 3!

9. Gothic Series

Gothic 2 Gameplay

Escape from a prison colony. Get revenge on those who attacked your family. These are just a few of the quests you will face in the Gothic series.

Gothic is a single player action RPG released in 2001. The first three games follow an unnamed character as he escapes from a prison colony and instigates a revolt. He must battle orcs and help his land regain control.

Hunting for meat.

The fourth game gave us a new character and new story but continue from the events from Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods.

The environment is very interactive. If you kill an animal you can take the wild meat and cook it, effectively healing yourself. Alternatively, you could sell it for money.

There isn’t currently any talk about a sequel to Gothic, but it definitely should be considered for one.

Battling giant bug monsters.

8. Neverwinter Nights

Neverwinter Nights 2 trailer

Adventure awaits those who are ready. Find a cure to the plague. Stop evil from rising again.

The Neverwinter Nights series was released in 2002 and modeled after the 1991 AOL version. It is a part of Forgotten Realms of the Dungeons & Dragons series. It was different than previous D&D games due to its multiplayer component, though not every expansion supported it.

The last game of the series was Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate in 2009 and is unrelated to previous expansions. The D&D games that have been released are very popular amongst RPG gamers. They offer the player an escape to another realm where magic is real.

Slaying ferocious orcs.

Due the popularity of these games, it’s no surprise that we want a sequel. While there are many RPGs out there, the magic and adventure that is brought to us through the D&D lore and campaigns just doesn’t compare.

Is this dragon my friend?

7. System Shock

System Shock: Enhanced Edition Trailer

When AI runs the world, will there be any room left for humans?

System Shock is a first person action role-playing survival horror game released in 1994. System Shock 2 was released in 1999.

Both games focus on the AI Computer SHODAN. In both games SHODAN is certainly a force to be reckoned with and the player must stop it before it wreaks havoc on Earth and humanity.

SHODAN

The game is similar to other survival horrors where you must gather weapons, upgrade them, and with some weapons, repair them. You choose a class and acquire skills and bonuses that help you.

The reason why we need a System Shock 3 is simple: the 2nd games ending. If you’ve never played the game I won’t give it away, but know this… it’s a HUGE cliff-hanger.

6. Icewind Dale

Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition Trailer

Deep in the Spine of the World mountains where the icy tundra will drain the life from anyone who dares to venture into it, there is an evil that seeks to destroy Faerun.

Heroes travel by airship.

Icewind Dale is another role-playing game that is based on the D&D Forgotten Realms campaign setting. It used the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition ruleset and the gameplay is similar to that of Baldur’s Gate.

The sequel, Icewind Dale 2, uses the AD&D 3rd edition ruleset which brought new perks to the series. Feats, the ability to be any class, and use any weapon as any class were some of these perks.

It seems that gamers are ready for a new and improved Icewind Dale.

Adventurers encounter a frozen dragon.

5. Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura

Arcanum Trailer

After a successful attack on the IFS Zephyr zeppelin causes it to crash, a man finds himself on a quest to find “the boy” who will help save the land.

Battling skeletons with magic.

A game filled with orcs, ogres, and other magical creatures, Arcanum is a non-linear roleplaying game with a steampunk feel. As with any RPG, you must first create your character. Then, through the game, the player may improve his skill by gaining experience. This may be done through defeating enemies or completing quests.

The developers had a sequel in mind, but due to disputes between the group, it was cancelled.

Maybe now it’s time to relook at the idea of a sequel to this fantastic game! After all, Steampunk has been a big thing the last few years.

Doors to new worlds.

4. Dungeon Siege Series

Dungeon Siege 3 Gameplay Trailer

A fast pasted action RPG that puts the hero against evils that threaten to destroy the world.

There are three games in the Dungeon Siege series and we are wondering why a fourth hasn’t been made.

Something is amiss.

Dungeon Siege series is known for its fast paced action and role-playing elements that make an RPG so great. It’s a hack and slash free for all with a linear storyline and multiplayer mode.

Fans of the game want a fourth installment, but it doesn’t appear this will happen anytime soon.

On a quest through a fiery land.

3. Bastion

Bastion: Official Trailer

Caelondia is left is pieces after a catastrophic event. One of the few survivors has been tasked with collecting cores that will fuel the Bastion and help rebuild all that has been destroyed.

Bastion is an action single role-playing game with a level structure. You play as “the Kid” who is trying to gather cores to power the Bastion, which will recreate landforms and rebuild the world that has been destroyed.

The edge of the world.

As the Kid you carry two weapons and are able to perform a special attack, though these are dependent on finding weapons and special attacks to use. As you progress through level, a voice will narrate over you, giving you plot information and other helpful clues.

Gorgeous graphics and an amazing soundtrack accompany this already great game. Fans are ready for a sequel.

Grenade launch your way through enemies!

2. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Trailer

The only successful revival through the Well of Souls, the Fateless One must travel the lands to discover who he is and the truth behind his life and death.

Double handed weapons.

KoA: Reckoning is a hack and slash role-playing game that was released in 2012. The game has four playable faces, two genders, and three classes. As with any RPG, you gain experience to level and improve your skills and abilities.

Playstyle of the game is similar to God of War and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, if they gave birth to a game of their own. The game is set in the game universe created by R.A. Salvatore.

There have been some DLCs to the game, but fans are wanting to see a sequel to the game. However, nothing is currently in the talks. The game is only 4 years old, so it’s quite possible that a sequel could happen!

I will teach you not to smirk at me!

1. Sid Meier’s Pirates

Sid Meier’s Pirates! Trailer

A pirate life isn’t easy. Sailing the seas, plundering fat booty, and avoiding getting caught (and scurvy) are just a few of the adventures they see. Ultimately a pirate chooses his life and how to live it.

Your very own ship!

Sid Meier’s games are fun. It’s no surprise that Pirates! was any different. In fact, it was different, and that’s what made it so popular. What could be more fun than taking on the life of a pirate.

You get to live the dream without the negative perks of the job. (Really, scurvy wasn’t fun.) A short backstory is provided when the game begins and then you create your character. Once you declare mutiny on your ill treatment, you begin your journey.

This game definitely needs a sequel. Though being a real pirate was not as glorious as it seemed, playing a pretend one is!

Ahoy! Let’s get us a sequel!

On guard you scallywag!
