Fans are eagerly waiting for Netflix to come out with The Witcher TV series.The slow progress made so far has made the wait almost unbearable. So if you need your fantasy-fix now, here are 17 similar movies you’ll enjoy.  

17. Season of the Witch

While Season of the Witch is a historic fantasy film, it also qualifies in the horror sub-genre. Two recent deserters of the Teutonic Order, Sir Bleibruck and Sir Felson travel back through Europe only to find the Black Death. They are instructed to take an alleged witch with them to an elite monastery, and things take a turn for the worst.

16. Conan the Barbarian

In this exciting adventure, we meet Conan, a man filled with vengeance as he roams a fantastical world of magic and sorcery. When Conan was still young, a warlord named Khalar Zym killed his father and so Conan swore vengeance and traveled the world as a pirate. When he finally has a chance to avenge his father, he discovers Tamara, a woman Zym needs to revive his dead wife. In this tale, the stakes are high as Conan tries to save the woman he loves and restore honor for his father.

In this remake of the 1981 film, humans take on the gods and their monsters. Loosely based on ancient Greek mythology, this movie follows Perseus, reluctant son of Zeus, as he takes on creatures like Medusa and the Kraken. This action-packed film is full of crazy fight scenes between men and monsters.

14. Your Highness

Princes Thadeous and Fabious are two brothers that couldn’t be more different. While Fabious is a handsome, skilled warrior, Thadeous is…well, lazy. When a sorcerer steals away Fabious’ bride, the brothers must rescue her. This satiric take on the high-fantasy genre will have you laughing until the end.

This generous take on the King Arthur tale offers a new perspective on a classic. This time, Arthur is a Roman cavalry officer and a Catholic, the knights are his comrades, Guinevere is a pagan Pict warrior, and an older Merlin is her wise father. 12. Solomon Kane

Based off the comics series (by both Marvel Comics and Dark Horse Comics), Solomon Kane is an internationally produced dark-fantasy-meets-16th-Century-England film, led by a character destined for hell. Kane is an ex-mercenary turned pacifist trying to redeem his soul, but when a family of Puritans is killed by an evil sorcerer and the eldest daughter is kidnapped, he swears to free her by killing all of the sorcerer’s followers. This film is packed with battles, violence, ghouls, and demons.

11. Beowulf

This 3D animated film retells the famous fight between Beowulf and Grendel. Don’t think the animation makes this film any less violent and action-packed – watch the trailer if you don’t believe me! For those of you who don’t know the story: Beowulf’s fight with Grendel is only the beginning of his troubles against monsters.

10. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Based off the popular video game, Prince of Persiais a unique fantasy story involving a magical dagger that rewinds time – but only for a minute. When Prince Dastan’s uncle, the king’s brother, decides he wants to use it to go back decades, Dastan finds himself on a quest to stop him. He encounters Princess Tamina, who knows of the dagger’s powers and convinces him that his uncle’s plan will destroy the world. From the banter of Dastan and Tamina to the impressive CGI, Prince of Persia is a widely entertaining action fantasy film.

9. The 13th Warrior

Ahmad ibn Fadlan is a new diplomat for the Caliph of Baghdad, and he is sent on a mission to visit the Norsemen far to the north. When a mysterious evil attacks nearby villages, Ahmad must help the Norsemen defeat this evil. There’s only one problem: he doesn’t even know how to fight.

Starring another famous son of Zeus, this film is full of action based on the Hercules tales. The film follows Achilles, the renowned warrior seeking immortality, and Prince Paris, the young noble madly in love with the beautiful Helen. 4. The Shannara Chronicles

If you want scary monsters in a unique fantasy world, look no further. This TV show has elves, goblins, and full-out demons. When an ancient tree, the Ellcrys, begins to die, demons are set loose and the elf guardians of the Ellcrys must protect the tree and fight the demons. And with two seasons already out, there’s plenty to watch.

3. The Hobbit Trilogy

The Hobbit is an internationally beloved story from the Tolkien universe.
