10.  Acromantula

When Spiders Attack

Acromantulas are enormous eight-eyed spiders that can talk.  They came from Borneo and prefer dense jungles or forests.  Their legs can reach up to 15 feet and they have a very poisonous secretion.  They’re carnivorous and will kill you if you come near them.  They can’t be tamed and are extremely hard to kill especially if they swarm you.

  • Talking spiders or any talking creature is amazing and rare.
  • Venomous qualities increase its danger.
  • Large predators are easy to spot.
  • A real challenge if you come across them.

You can’t tame or breed Acromantulas but, you can do a side quest and fight them.

  • Go to Aranshire Hamlet east of Hogwarts
  • Talk to Mr. Adley, a local vendor
  • Head to the Absconder’s Cave in the Forbidden Forest.  Stay on your broom for as long as possible.  The Forbidden Forest has many creatures waiting to attack you.  Spiders are vulnerable to fire.
  • Follow the web-lined path forest path towards the northwest.
  • Use RevelioRevelio to reveal where the spider pods are.
  • Keep fighting spiders until you reach the Absconder.  The Absconder is an acromantula.
 

9.  Dragons

Momma's Home

Dragons are very large, aggressive beasts that you shouldn’t go near unless you have to.  They fly and breathe fire.  There are 10 breeds of dragon and they occasionally have been known to interbreed and produce a rare hybrid.  Dragons are also very protective of their children.

  • Flying and fire give them an aerial advantage that would intimidate any enemy
  • Dragons are one of the most famous creatures in Hogwarts Legacy
  • They can choose to be friendlier (not eat you) if you prove yourself to be worthy of not being eaten
  • Their size and fearsomeness are incredible to see

You can’t tame or breed dragons but you do have a couple of opportunities to help one.  The 35th main quest Fire and Vice is where you will rescue a dragon egg and free a dragon.  A relationship quest, Poached Egg, will let you return a dragon egg to its parent.

Fire and Vice:

  • Once you reach level 19 meet with Poppy in the North Ford Bog region
  • Talk with Poppy and search for signs of poachers
  • In the abandoned camp use Revelio to find blue tracks
  • Enter the tent guarded by poachers
  • Use the ladder to reach where you can see a dragon
  • Rescue the dragon egg inside of the cage and take it with you
  • Defeat the poachers in the room where the dragon is held prisoner
  • Use Accio on the hood under the dragon to free her

Poached Egg:

  • Once you have reached level 20, complete Relationship Quest: A Dragon Debrief, and completed Main Quest: Fire and Vice - talk to Poppy in the Hogsmeade town circle
  • Follow the quest marker to the nest
  • Sneak past the dragon and get to her nest
  • Put the dragon’s egg in the nest
 

8.  Unicorn

The Majestic & Magnificent

Unicorns are the most beautiful and graceful animals in all of Hogwarts Legacy.  They live in the forests of Northern Europe.  Their hair, horns, and blood have magical properties.  Although if you kill a unicorn you will be cursed.  Unicorns will avoid you and are very fast.

  • Their blood will sustain you even if you are about to die
  • They are the most beautiful and graceful animal
  • Their hair is used in wands
  • In Hogwarts Legacy, you can tame and breed them
  • You can collect unicorn hair and upgrade gear

Finding them…..

  • Go to the edge of the Forbidden Forest
  • Head to the East North Ford Bog Entrance Floo Flame
  • Go south to the only Unicorn Den in the game
  • It’s due west of Upper Hogsfield

Taming them…..

  • Complete the main quest The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and the Loom
  • Get close to the unicorn
  • Use Levioso to prevent it from running away
  • Use the Nab-Sack and press the “F” key when it says to
  • If you click all the button prompts the unicorn will be put in your Nab-Sack
 

7.  Phoenix

The Legends Are True

The Phoenix is an incredible bird that is reborn from its ashes.  It’s immortal.  A phoenix’s tears can heal you.  It has amazing strength.  The red, orange, and yellow feathers are a sight to see.  They are usually found on mountaintops.  

  • You can tame but not breed them
  • Phoenix Feathers can upgrade equipment
  • Phoenix feathers can create traits
  • Their feathers can be used as a core for magic wands
  • It’s unique.  There is only one in the whole of Hogwarts Legacy

The Phoenix can be found during a side quest called Phoenix Rising.  This is the only way to get it and it’s done later in the game.

  • Reach level 20, unlock both the Room of Requirement and the Vivarium, and complete’s Deek’s quests “The Plight Of The House-Elf” and “Foal Of The Dead”
  • Start Deek’s Phoenix Rising side quest.  You can find Deek in the Room of Requirement
  • Go to the south of the map to the Phoenix Mountain Cave located in the Poidsear Coast Region
  • Inside the cave, defeat the poachers and spiders, then reach the top
  • At the nest, use the Nab-Sack to rescue the Phoenix
  • Bring him back to Deek.  Be careful of the giant spider waiting outside the mine cave.
 

6.  Giant Purple Toad

I Wonder If He Is Slimy

The Giant Purple Toad is a magical creature with warts.  Their favorite toy is rumored to be a leather football.  You can’t ride them no matter how big they get.  So don’t even try.  Their warts are useful in potions.

  • You can tame them and breed them
  • Their warts can be used at the Enchanted Loom to add new traits
  • They are found close to Hogwarts
  • There are many of them

The Giant Purple Toad is one of the easiest animals to catch.

  • Unlock the Room of Requirement
  • Start the Magical Beasts Class quest where you rescue a Giant Purple Toad
  • Use the West Forbidden Forest Floo Flame
  • The den is in the northwestern part of the Forbidden Forest
  • Use Levioso or Arresto Momentum to stop it from moving
  • Use the Nab-Sack to capture it
 

5.  Jobberknoll

One Of The Smallest Birds In The World

Jobberknolls are tiny blue or green-speckled bird that doesn’t make a sound until they die.  The sound they make at death is made up of every sound it has heard.  Their feathers are useful in potions.

  • They are tameable and you can breed them
  • Beautiful feathers
  • Their feathers can be used to upgrade equipment
  • Very small and can be a challenge to find

You’ll be able to catch a Jobberknoll at the northern edge of the Forbidden Forest after you complete a side quest.

  • Find Deek in the Room of Requirement
  • Complete Deek’s side quest The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom
  • Start at the North Ford Bog Entrance Floo Flame
  • Travel east until you see a large tree
  • That tree is a Jobberknoll den
  • Use the Nab-Sack to capture them
 

4.  Puffskein

Cute, Cuddly, and Durable

Puffskeins are round and their fur is fluffy.  They love for you to cuddle them but are tough enough for you to throw around too.  They will eat anything but their favorite food is bogies.  They are easy to maintain and their fur is useful.

  • Very adorable and cuddly 
  • Tough enough to throw around
  • A disgusting habit of eating sleeping wizards' bogies
  • Easy to maintain once you have tamed them and you can breed them
  • Their fur is used to upgrade your gear

You can find Puffskein Dens all around the world.  There is one in the Forbidden Forest but the closest one is on the road to Hogsmeade.

  • Find Deek in the Room of Requirement
  • Complete Deek’s side quest The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom
  • Start on the road to Hogsmeade
  • Just north of Hogwarts, you will find the Puffskein’s Den
  • Use your map and look for the paw print if you have trouble finding it
 

3.  Graphorn

A Now Peaceful Giant Monster

Graphorns have long sharp horns and are very aggressive.  Their horns have magical properties and are very valuable if you can get them.  Graphorn hide is tougher than a dragon’s hide and will repel most spells.

  • Tameable and you can breed them
  • You can use them as mounts
  • Their horns can be used to upgrade and assign traits to your gear
  • Their hides are tough and repel most spells
  • They are a challenge to beat and ride

You need to complete Deek’s side quest to be able to tame/breed the graphorns and you need to  complete a main quest to be able to mount them.  

  • Find Deek in the Room of Requirement
  • Complete Deek’s side quest The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom
  • Head to the map chamber and talk to Professor Fig to start the 38th main quest San Bakar’s Trial
  • Travel to the Cragcroft Shore Floo Flame location to the right of the Manor Cape region
  • Meet Professor Fig and cast Confringo on the foliage covering the stone carving in front of you
  • Head to the far southwest in the Clagmar Coast Region until you get to a large whale skeleton
  • Go into the den near you
  • There you will battle a great Graphorn - ancient magic is most effective
  • When its health is 0, choose to kneel
  • You can now ride the Graphorn
 

2.  Hippogriff

A Flying Horse Not To Be Confused With A Pegasus

The Hippogriff has the head of a giant eagle and the body of a horse.  It also has wings to fly.  You can use their feathers which have magical properties.  You must show a hippogriff respect.

  • You can tame and breed them
  • You can use them as flying mounts
  • Their feathers can be used to upgrade your gear
  • They are loyal once you have earned their friendship

You can learn to tame and breed them with Deek’s side quest.  After that, you can earn them as a flying mount after you complete a couple more objectives.

  • Attend your first Beast Class
  • Find Deek in the Room of Requirement
  • Complete Deek’s side quest The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom
  • Go north of Hogwarts Castle into the middle of the Forbidden Forest
  • Sneak up on the Hippogriff using the Disillusionment Charm
  • Then use Levioso to immobilize it
  • Use your Nab-Sack to capture the hippogriff
  • Speak to Natty just outside of Falbarton Castle to start the 27th main quest The High Keep
  • Enter the castle
  • Make your way to the roof
  • Defeat the poachers
  • Climb aboard Highwing the Hippogriff to get away
 

1.  Thestral

I See Dead Horses

Thestrals are winged horses that can only be seen by people who have witnessed death.  Because of their connection to death, you will find people are often intimidated by them and even scared of them.

  • Rare flying mount
  • Tameable and you can breed them
  • Intimidates and scares others
  • Thestral hair is used to create traits and upgrade equipment

Anyone can tame and breed thestrals but you can only get one as a mount by completing the High Keep Quest and buying the Dark Arts Pack in the Deluxe Edition of Hogwarts Legacy.

  • Find Deek in the Room of Requirement
  • Complete Deek’s side quest The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and The Loom
  • Use your broom to travel to the north-most section of the map in North Ford Bog
  • Head to the East North Ford Bog Floo Flame and go north
  • Use Disillusionment and Levioso to immobilize the thestral
  • Use your Nab-Sack to capture it
