Before his High school English teacher convinced him, Tyler did not believe that writing was something that he could dabble in. However, after placing in a couple of UIL writing competitions and impressing his classmates Tyler realized his knack for it. Since then he’s been aspiring to use it to tell stories in movies, video games, or even comic books.

In college, he unintentionally found a game that gave an idea of how begin in his journey. Dungeons & Dragons opened doors to him unlike anything else ever had. Magical worlds and mighty heroes, there certainly was nothing better that stimulated his imagination. While his time as a Dungeon Master only lasted for three years, the game really tested his writing as well as his storytelling skills. Testing him how to tie ideas together and make them interesting and worthwhile to his players. Mostly through trial and error.

Simultaneously during his time in college, his education and internships gave him the opportunity to write something other than stories or essays. Using words as a device to get a person’s attention, and describe big ideas with fewer words. A tool that proved to serve him well in Graphic Design and Social Media. Tools that he uses to this day on his Instagram page (@thebeckettoutlook). A page that he primarily uses to write and review movies.

A year and a half later, Tyler has continued using that platform to share what he loves. Mostly to showoff how storytelling inspires him to write. A trait that has drawn the attention of Scribe Magazine. Of whom he authors articles for on a monthly basis about storytelling topics in cinema.

Yet, while cinema and filmmaking is his primary love video games have also had a special place in his heart. Many of his favorites from his childhood to even now have been games that are incredibly story based. Multiplayer games have some value to him, but the immersion of good game can be incredibly addictive. So while his time as a writer over video games may be rather new to him, writing and gushing over storytelling, no matter the medium, will be much of a challenge. Because his passion well makes up for his lack in experience.
