Sometimes you just need to fulfill that urge to beat a zombie with a pipe, that is when these games come in to play. This list is going to look at the most popular zombie games that allow you to go on murderous rampages without really feeling all too bad about it. Here we go! 10. Plants vs Zombies
I'd be worried if my plants looked that happy
Starting out we’ve got the popular tower defense game from 2009. Plants vs Zombies puts you as a distraught homeowner that is being assaulted by the undead horde. Lucky for you, you have an array of plants at your disposal that will do just the trick in repelling the zombies from your yard.
The game is oddly addicting as you strategically pick plants and place them on the map. The zombies keep coming and the game gets more and more difficult, but you also unlock cool new plants that can dispose off the zombies in more efficient ways.
9. Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies

I was first exposed to Black Ops zombies back in 2010, and I got hooked! This has got to be one of the absolute best and popular zombie games simply because of how addictive it is. Each Black Ops game comes with different zombie maps, but the mode is always the same.
You start off with a pistol and a knife as your only weapons defending you from a wave of Nazi zombies. Once you exterminate the first wave of zombie soldiers, another wave spawns. Each kill gives you points that you can use to buy new weapons and ammo. There is only one purpose to the game, survive as long as you can.
8. Left 4 Dead 2
You happy now? You killed me!
You play as one of four survivors of a massive zombie infestation. The campaign mode follows the small group as they try to escape the infected zones with their lives intact.
This game is not known for its story, but rather its awesome coop game modes. Each of the 4 individuals in the group is meant to be controlled by a different player, not the crappy AI. Like most other zombie games you gain points for killing the undead, and the better you kill them, the more points you get.
You’ve got to be careful though, in this game you don’t have access to unlimited ammo or weapons. If you run out, you’ll be swinging the best blunt weapon you can find lying around. Unfortunately melee doesn’t work to well when you’re being assaulted by a swarm of undead.
7. Resident Evil
Many of the cliches we get in zombie games can be traced back to Resident Evil
Go back to the roots of how almost all popular zombie games began. Well, it wasn’t the first zombie game, but it definitely helped popularize the genre. The game series started back in 1996 and has had well over 10 games released since then. The series spans multiple characters and different storylines, but one thing always remains the same, your ability to kill zombies.
Resident Evil is not so much a hack and slash zombie shooter as the rest of the games on this list though. It is a part of the survival horror genre and it plays that role very well. You have to be careful as you move across the levels because the zombies can quickly overwhelm you!
A noteworthy mention should be given to this series for introducing the zombie dogs… We all remember too well the heart attack feeling we got when the zombie dog burst through the windows in the first game.
6. Dead Rising
Look into the face of true terror
The third game of this franchise was released towards the end of last year, and it was just as big of a hit as its predecessors. This whole series takes the horror out of zombie games and replaces it with reckless fun. Whether you are trying to keep your daughter alive through a daily injection of the Zombrex drug or if you’re simply trying to survive the massive zombie break out in your city, this game is an awesome zombie killing game.
The first thing to know about Dead Rising is that everything is a weapon. You can kill zombies with medieval weapons, assault rifles, boxing gloves, beer bottles, or even stuffed animals from the toy store. The customization in this game is awesome, and the most important aspect is not to survive, it is to have fun!
5. Dead Island
Hmm... First time I've ever seen bikini zombies
Have you ever partied so hard that you woke up and realized that you’d missed the zombie apocalypse? Well if you have then you would have something in common with the people staying on the paradise island resort in this game. Your job is not only to secure supplies and protect the survivors, but it is to get a message out to the outside world for help.
The world is massive and you can go and do anything you want. Weapons are to be found everywhere and your only goal is to survive. The sequel of this awesomely popular zombie killing game is coming out this year, so look out for it.
4. DayZ
Are you ready for a zombie mmo?
DayZ is one of the first MMO style zombie games on the market. It is still in Early Access on Steam though so if you want to support it, head over there and sign up.
The zombie apocalypse has struck and you are one of the few survivors. You can choose to team up with other players or simply fly solo in order to survive. Weapons can be found or crafted, and later customized with unique mods that fit you the best.
The reason this game is so addicting is because of the online multiplayer nature of the game. You don’t know if you’re going to get killed by a zombie or your next door neighbor.
3. The Last of Us

The Last of Us is possibly the best game of all time across all genres. The story was so good and captivated the hearts of so many that they are putting together a live action movie for it now. The game follows Joel as he loses his daughter, not to the zombies, but to another man. Then he is tasked with bringing a girl that might hold the key to a cure to Salt Lake City. Their adventure is very dark and explores the true nature of humanity.
The zombies in this game are untraditional since they have massive shrooms growing on their heads. The game is supposed to be played with stealth and finesse, but there is nothing stopping you from taking a guns blazing kind of approach.
2. H1Z1
Weapons are rare commodities in H1Z1
Other than DayZ, this is the only zombie MMO on the market. This game separates itself from the other games in the genre by being completely sandbox. You can do anything you want. If you want to build a hut and hide in it all day while crafting stuff with sticks, that’s totally fine. Something interesting about zombies is that they seem to have lost the ability to open doors.
This game can be very unsettling to play though. Not only do you have to watch out for the relentless zombies, but other players seem to be out for you as well. It doesn’t end there, for some reason every critter or animal that you come across wants you dead. In fact, everything wants you dead in this game!
1. Dying Light
Just don't fall!
The fictional city of Harran has been quarantined due to a mysterious zombie outbreak. You are an agent for the Global Relief Effort that is sent in to retrieve some important documents that have been stolen from a rogue agent. You quickly end up wondering if your mission is moral and whether or not you should stay behind and help the survivors.
This game is amazing. Imagine playing Mirror’s Edge but with zombies. The streets are completely littered with zombies so you have to traverse the massive city through the rooftops. The parkour and fun zombie killing options make this game a king of its genre.
