How Long Did it Take You to Beat Them?
The Dark Souls franchise is notorious for its ridiculously high difficulty level. You know it is bad when the first game was released with its expansion as the “Prepare to Die” edition. It’s like the game developers want you to fail! Out of all the unfair and difficult Dark Souls bosses, these 10 are by far the worst.
10. Asylum demon (Dark Souls)
While Demon Souls is technically the first in the series, most of us started with Dark Souls. Imagine starting the game up for the first time and creating your character. You’ve gotten part way through the starting area. You’ve killed a couple of enemies with the assistance of some in game tutorial hints and you think to yourself: “This isn’t so bad.” Then suddenly a massive demon from the depths of Hell drops down from the sky and brutally murders you…
While this boss is relatively easy if you choose the bombs as your starting bonus item, it can be brutally difficult otherwise since he hits like a truck and you do next to no damage with your broken sword.
9. Lost Sinner (Dark Souls 2)
The Lost Sinner is one of the bigger bosses in Dark Souls 2. You need to defeat her in order to get one of the Great Souls, but she is no push over. She attempted to re-light the first flame a long time ago which something many consider to be the ultimate sin. As consequence for her actions, she now punishes herself eternally for her trespass.
The most annoying and difficult part of this boss fight is that unless you’ve completed a very specific set of requirements before this point in the game, the room will be too dark for your lock on the remain on the boss. This meant that you could only keep your lock on when the boss was right next to you, but since she continuously disengages, she would often be able to blind side you.
8. Capra Demon (Dark Souls)
So you’re wandering the Undead Burg when you see a fog gate. Being the silly naïve person you are, you walk through it. Suddenly you are bull rushed by a hellish goat demon… and you die. Oh and there are two little devil dogs that want to chew you up as well.
This boss is very difficult simply because of the small confined place you are forced to fight in, and the ridiculous aggressive nature of the boss. The Capra demon is very fast and doesn’t give you a lot of chance to recover.
As for the boss’s lore, well he is simply a demon that managed to escape to the surface when Lost Izalith was created.
7. Ruin Sentinels (Dark Souls 2)
In true Dark Souls fashion, you enter a fog gate, fall several feet onto a platform, and get squashed by the Ruin Sentinel boss patiently waiting behind you. There is not just one boss either, but three of these guys are waiting to gang up on you with their ridiculously long weapons. The Sentinels are just normal enemies on steroids. This becomes apparent when you fight multiple sentinels later on in the game. However, those mobs are significantly easier to beat.
This could be considered as the Dark Souls 2 hardest boss if it wasn’t for the fact that this is Dark Souls, and in this franchise it always gets darkest right before it goes pitch black.
6. Smelter Demon (Dark Souls 2)
The Smelter Demon might be the byproduct of the Old Iron King’s conceit as his life was taken by living Iron. Either way, this fiery monstrosity awaits the player in the Iron keep.
The boss mechanics are pretty straightforward and this fight shouldn’t be as hard as it is… Except for one important detail. You will constantly find your health bar depleting since the boss’s fire burns you just by being in his presence. You better finish the fight as fast as you can!
5. The Pursuer (Dark Souls 2)
This overzealous boss was well named. He hunts the person who bears the mark, that would be you, and he keeps appearing again and again in the game to make your life difficult.
If you can beat him the very first time he appears you’ll get a special something, but it is incredibly difficult to do. You are undergeared and underleveled. This fight requires very skillful dodging and patience since he could easily kill you with two or three blows.
4. The Four Kings (Dark Souls)
How would you like to be trapped in a dark pit with 4 giant ancient Kings that together stick you in a mob pit of death? Sound like fun doesn’t it? These kings were the original rulers of New Londo, and they were in fact praised for their goodness and foresight. That was until the darkness took them though.
This fight is very difficult since you only get a few moments between the arrivals of the other Kings. You want to down the first one as fast as possible so that you don’t become overwhelmed when the others arrive.
3. Bell Gargoyles (Dark Souls)
Other than the Asylum Demon, this was the first real challenge in Dark Souls 1, and what a challenge it was! These stone monsters guard the Bell of Awakening in order to make sure that only the chosen undead rings it.
The boss fight begins and you think you are only fighting one fire breathing gargoyle. Surprise! There is more! After bringing the first gargoyle down to about ¾ of his health, a second one spawns to mess you up. It is easy to get burned in this thorn among Dark Souls bosses.
2. Executioner’s Chariot (Dark Souls 2)
While you think the boss might be the Skeleton driving the chariot, it is actually the undead horse that is your main foe. It was the horse that was created by the old Iron King to torment the undead; the skeleton probably just jumped aboard some time ago and is enjoying the ride.
When you first encounter this boss, assuming that you have not looked up how to beat it, it will be the Dark Souls 2 hardest boss of the entire game. You are trapped in an arena that has a massive chariot plowing through it every few seconds. If you get hit, you die.
You have to figure out that you can close a gate which causes the chariot to crash, thus making the horse targetable. Keep in mind though, that while you are trying to get the gate closed, you have to defeat three necromancers, their minions, and dodge the chariot of doom.
1. Ornstein & Smough (Dark Souls)
These two were part of the four original dragon slaying knights that served King Gwyn. Of course that was a long time ago and all that is left of them now are their hollow shells. We know them today as the hardest Dark Souls bosses of all time!
One of these guys would be a formidable boss by himself, but fighting both at the same time is brutal. One is fast and can deliver ranged attacks. The other walks around stomping the ground and swinging large sweeping blows with his hammer. On top of that, when one finally dies, you have to fight an even stronger version of the other knight from full health again. It is very difficult to do this alone.
