There can be no doubt that 2k Games is big in the video game industry. It has produced well-known titles such as NBA 2k, Bioshock, The Elder Scrolls IV, and Civilization V. 2k is best known for their sports games, although there are also several popular RPGs they have created. In this compilation, you will find some of the most popular 2k games of 2016. The great amount of variety within these titles just goes to show how diverse 2k is. There are several different genres, subjects, and themes even within just seven games.

7. Xcom 2

After Xcom fails to stop aliens from invading earth, they are forced to go underground. The aliens build cities for humans, pretending to be peaceful, but something is not quite right.

Xcom realizes this, but is outmatched in technology and numbers. Still, Xcom fights on using guerrilla tactics and by building resistance force huge enough to rebel against the aliens.

It is your job to control the Avenger, an alien ship that has been adapted for Xcom and is used as the rebellion’s headquarters. You will play as Commander, with the goal of rebuilding XCOM and finally taking back earth from the Alien rule.

It is no easy task, for there are many different types of aliens, including the Archon, Muton, Faceless, and Chryssalid. Each are deadly in their own way.

One neat thing about this game is that the difficulty level is adjustable. This rare quality makes Xcom 2 unique and a great option for those who like to adjust the difficulty of a game.

You are the last hope for humanity! Xcom is the final resistance against the aliens’ nefarious plans

The aliens claim they want to help humanity, but something sinister is afoot

6. Bioshock Infinite

Imagine a steampunk city in the clouds. Actually, there is no need to imagine, because this is the setting for Bioshock Infinite. The last two games were set underwater, so this is a fresh turn. Players will no doubt enjoy the new, gorgeous scenery.

Bioshock Infinite features the protagonist Booker DeWitt. Once a respected private detective, he has fallen into disgrace. However, he has a chance to redeem his reputation when he is enlisted to go on a mission to find a woman named Elizabeth.

This is a person who has been trapped within Columbia, the aforementioned city in the sky. At first, one wonders how anything could be wrong about the heavenly place. However, gameplay reveals that something is amiss.

As the story progresses, Booker is not only caught between the warring Vox Populi and Founders factions, but between dimensions. In a fascinating twist, Elizabeth must weave tears of alternate universes into their present reality. In their journey through these alternate universes, they unravel the conspiracy of the city’s beginning.

Columbia is just a peaceful city in the sky… or is it?

5. Spec Ops: The Line

Captain Martin Walker is a part of the Delta Force elite team in Dubai. Sent on a reconnaissance mission, he and his soldiers must face a land struck by the brutality of both nature and mankind.

While playing as Walker, gamers must face their greatest enemy: sand. The desert ocean is unpredictable and violent. Sandstorms are a constant threat.

There are many other threats as well. This game forces players to make high risk decisions. The results are never pretty.

Gamers do not feel like heroes. This game forces players to make split second decisions that make you question the morality of your actions.

These soldiers must face not only human enemies, but dangerous sandstorms

You are forced to think and act on your feet as new challenges arise

4. Civilization VI

Start small and grow until you control the world in Civilization VI. The goal is to find other cities, and take them over. This version of Civilization forces players to think on their feet, acting quickly, instead of settling into a pattern like in past Civilization games.

Cities are now made up of districts such as military or industrial. When looking at another empire, you can see what cities would cripple that empire if they were destroyed.

Unlike in past versions, leaders now have an agenda. Just like real people, they have goals and ambitions. Leaders have historical accuracy backing them up. However, even leaders who were peaceful in real life may have a dark side in this game. This brings a whole different aspect to the game.

Civilization VI has a new, unique layout where there are different epicenters

War is here!

3. Mafia 3

If your friends were murdered, how would you respond? Lincoln Clay is certainly not going to forget about it. He was a part of a black mob in Bordeaux when the Italian mob came and slaughtered all the black mob members.

The black mob was like family to him. After he returned from war, they accepted him, took him in, and treated him as one of their own. Lincoln thought he had found home.

As the single survivor, he seeks revenge. It will be no easy journey. The Italian mob is immensely powerful.

Clay has a military background since he was formerly deployed in Vietnam, and there is no doubt he learned some skills there. The neat thing about this game is that players are allowed to decide what kind of tactics to use.

He will put these to use as he engages in melee combat and gunfights. You can go guns blazing, or use your stealth mode.

How will you take down the Italian mafia? Will you use violent encounters, or perhaps corruption to take them down financially? Gamers can decide which path they want to take

But he will not do it alone. Clay recruits others to help him start a criminal organization that will bring down the Italian mob once and for all. You have to choose which members you will trust and reward, and which you will turn on.

Your goal is to create a new family, building from the ground up. Will you once again have a family? Will you be able to bring your enemies down? Find out in this game.

Form a new family that will help you corrupt and destroy your enemy

2. Battleborn

The Varlesi once destroyed almost all planets and stars in the galaxy, forcing many different species to evacuate to the last star. Here they learn how to coexist peacefully, and even eventually create a band of the best warriors.

These twenty five must fight against the Varlesi to protect the final place they could call home. If they fail, the last safe haven will be destroyed.

The main pull of this game is the amount of exciting, colorful characters. Each of the twenty five warriors has different skills and abilities. Some can use magic, some are powerful melee fighters, and some have special powers. For example, Phoebe is able to teleport.

Every protagonist has a unique background. Most games feature just humans, but Battleborn features all sorts of species and characters. This prevents the game from becoming monotone and boring.

It is funner when there is a lot of variety and choice.

1. Borderlands (series)

Every serious gamer knows about the Borderlands saga. Out of the series, Borderlands 2 has sold the most copies.

These stories are featured in the desert planet Pandora. Here supposedly lies a legendary vault. This fable brings treasure hunters of all sorts to come and find a fortune.

However, there are also military groups, businesses, and mercenaries interested. The fight for power is constant.

The first Borderlands instalment features four protagonists looking for the vault along with many other seekers after the Dahl Corporation abandons Pandora. They start getting messages from a guide who identifies herself as a “Guardian Angel”, who promises to help them find the vault. To open the vault, they must collect several ancient alien articles to form a key.

In Borderlands 2, another vault is rumored to be on Pandora. These new treasure seekers are also guided by the “Guardian Angel” and instructed to defeat Handsome Jack, who has taken over the planet. They discover that Jack intends to open the vault, which actually contains a great monster that will obey whoever opens the vault. They must kill this lava creature and bring an end to Jack.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! Is actually set between the first two games, but was made after Borderlands 2. There are four playable characters who actually come from Borderlands 1 and 2 (plus two new characters if you use the downloadable content). This time, however, most of the story happens on Pandora’s moon, Elpis. It tells the story of how Handsome Jack came to be so powerful.

Don’t let anyone stop you from finding the vault!

Pandora may have some scary monsters, but Elpis has even more terrifying creatures
