Anyone who has been following Valorant since beta is aware of Riot Games’ hopes for the game as a competitive environment. Not even a month has passed and they have already announced their first esports endeavor. This initial phase of esports will be called the Ignition Series to kindle the first flame of the Valorant competitive scene.

The Collective Competitive Effort

Riot Games has stated on their official Valorant website that they would be bringing a Valorant competitive scene along with 20 big esports names. Their first tournament was in cooperation with the European organization, G2 Esports, to spark the Ignition Series. The G2 VALORANT Invitational competition features eight teams fighting for a $50,000 prize pool, which is relatively low (Ninja Battle’s prize pool was $80,000).

Where Will the Tournaments Be?

With the many servers Valorant has online, there is a lot of ground to cover. Riot Games’ recognizes this and plans to host the Ignition Series in the following regions:

  • North America
  • Brazil
  • Latin America
  • Korea
  • Japan
  • Southeast Asia
  • Oceania
  • Europe
  • Russia
  • Turkey
  • Middle East
By the end of the Ignition Series, there should be at least one tournament in each of these regions. With the deep pockets of their sponsors like Redbull Gaming and Rage, money shouldn’t be an issue.

How Riot Selects Talent

Like all esports, there are sponsored teams that get drafted to play. So an obvious condition is for you to be god-like in this tournament. If you have potential, you may also be scoped out for pro play. Riot ensures that players from all walks of life will be permitted to partake in these tournaments. The entire point of this Ignition Series is to scope out new talent for when the competitive Valorant scene takes off. Who knows, if you get in early you may have the chance to be the Faker of Valorant.
