With So Many Amazing PC Games Available, How Do You Choose What To Play?

In a perfect world, you wouldn’t have to choose which games you were going to play because you would simply have endless resources for them.  However, we do not live in a perfect world so we have to make choices about what games we’re gonna pick up and play.  This list hopes to guide you in your decisions and give you reasons to play every single game on this list.

All while knowing that you won’t pick up all 15.

1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Intense stares all around.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a huge open world RPG that begs to be explored all over the place.  You decide whether or not you’re just going to explore, or go marching into battle; though at some point, you should probably complete the story.  You play as an outcast bounty hunter, who falls into a mix of all the different classes present in the universe of The Witcher.

You must go about ridding the world of the horrible monsters that plague it.  You can take a break from monster slaughtering to compete in some horse races, play some card games, or even get yourself into some trouble in a tavern brawl.  There’s even some game-within-game games specific to The Witcher universe that you might want to check out.

Enjoy a gameplay trailer, if you will.

In The Witcher 3, you’ll have plenty of choices, activities, and exploring to keep you entertained for hours.

2. Pillars of Eternity

Have some fun in a classic RPG like Pillars of Eternity.

Pillars of Eternity strives to go back to the magic and nostalgia of classic RPGs.  You can choose to play as a Human, Dwarf, Elf, Godlike, Aumaua, or an Orlan.  You class up into Barbarian, Wizard, Paladin, or Chanter.

All around the game, there’s the classic RPG-game feel that you didn’t know you were missing.  It even takes some modern tabletop elements into its configuration.  Explore the world of Eternity and learn all about the spells and abilities while delving into this older-style RPG.

Pillars of Eternity is still in the development stages, but showing your support early will increase the promise of a fantastic game.

3. Total War: Attila

Fancy an olden-style battle again and again and again?

You are now in 395 AD at the dawn of the Dark Ages and you must survive.  You have some choices though.  Are you going to create for yourself your own kingdom of barbarians or are you going to try and keep the last bastion of the Roman Empire alive?

Total War: Attila takes into account several factors: famine, disease, as well as war.  You play this turn-based strategy game with real-time tactics.  A large point of the game is to use fire in your battle tactics; whether you only set buildings aflame or raze the entire terrain is up to you.

They want you to burn the world.

Total War: Attila is your highly-realistic experience in what it would be like to be there.  You’ll have the specific technologies, arms, religion, cultures, and social upheaval that were present in 395.  Enjoy.

4: GTA: 5

Gotta go fast.

The premise of Grant Theft Auto: 5 is not that much different from previous GTA games.  You control three criminals committing heists while trying not to get yourself arrested.  You have your missions and scenarios that you must complete to progress the story, but outside of those missions, you are free to roam the otherwise open world.

The first person experience of GTA: 5.

GTA: 5 also includes aircraft, something new and exciting compared to previous games.  And, in addition to the three protagonists, you can also hire accomplices with specific sets of skills to help you on missions—for a cut of the money, of course.  You can also play online and complete missions with other players to help.

This installment of the Grand Theft Auto games is everything the other games had and more, better graphics, more vehicles, and more ways to complete your missions, all set within the completely fictional but also satiric city of Los Santos.

5. Cities: Skylines

See all that you can do from the release trailer.

Skylines is one of the more realistic city building experiences.  The point of the game is to give you the opportunity to manage a city and have fun while doing it.  The developers went out of their way to make it the closest-to-real-life experience as possible.

The goal of the game is to make the biggest and most efficient city.  But you can make a smaller city and still win.  You don’t even have to make the city pretty, if you really just want to dive in and crunch some numbers.

Cities: Skylines gives you a lot of options for what you can do while still having a fun time.

8. Tom Clancy’s The Division

Taking cover during a firefight.

The plot of this apocalyptic game is simple: a pandemic sweeps through New York City on Black Friday and it isn’t long before basic services fail.  The Division is a group of tactical agents trained to operate autonomously in order to save society.  This is where the game kicks off.

What happens when our society breaks down?

The city that you play in is living and breathing: day and night, as well as weather, affect what you will be able to do.  The whole place is contaminated and you need your gas mask to survive—so you had better upgrade it as the game moves along.  You can also team up with other players to loot Manhattan.

The long-awaited Fallout 4 trailer.

The Fallout 4 announcement came out of nowhere.  Bethesda had this game under wraps, trying to make it as complete as possible before they breathed more word than rumors.  But now the game is announced for November and the seasoned fans are ecstatic.

First look at Fallout 4 gameplay.

For those of you new to Fallout, all you need to know is that in this game, you are the sole survivor of one of the nuclear-bomb proof “Vaults” that are the fallout shelters from the nuclear war.  Now, you have to navigate and rebuild the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Boston in the FPS that is Fallout 4.  Customize your character and explore the open world.

Fallout 4 builds off of the world presented to you in previous Fallout games, so maybe you should check those out too.

12. Torment: Tides of Numenara

Fully crowdfunded computer RPG.

In Torment, you play a single character in this RPG.  You have a vast range of NPCs that you can choose whether or not to put them in your party.  Like many good RPGs, it’s all about the role-playing: the choices you make affect the world around you.

The Ninth World is unlike any other.

There are many different sides to choose from in Numenara and it is not as simple as black and white.  You can join in factions to receive support and give support, or you can stay out of it entirely if you want.  Either way, you’ll come up against people with ideas unlike yours who will probably force you into combat.

I’m the Batman.  (Said in Batman’s voice.)

This is the direct sequel of Arkham Origins.  From the beginning of Arkham Knight, you can travel freely through the city.  You can also team up with Robin, Nightwing, and Catwoman to complete your objectives and save the city from Scarecrow.
