Do you ever find yourself not wanting to play a shoot 'em up? An MMO? Anything that takes itself a little too seriously? What you need is a game with wit, humor, and sometimes, the struggle between a father and his newborn. Check out this list to see exactly the kind of game I'm talking about!

11. The Bard's Tale

The Bard's Tale is full of some pretty wacky moments, but this one might just take the cake

Lots of games will have different dialogue options for either a "good" or evil" path, but not many can boast a "snarky" or "nice" mechanic.

The Bard’s Tale follows an opportunistic adventurer and musician, as he travels across the world attempting to hone his skills through deeds both heroic and silly. While the game makes numerous references to the original trilogy, it plays more to the action / adventure genre, and the main character is driven more by carnal than noble desires, constantly setting himself up for encounters that only serve as side quests in other titles. This sets the stage for a game that can deliver plenty of laughs, both through the seemingly exasperated narrator (Tony Jay), and the truly bizarre encounters the player has with characters in the game (such as the singing trio above). Expect a mix of action and laughter in this journey of a noble bard on Steam today!

What other game have you played that has breakdancing zombies?

You know that if they're willing to advertise the game like this, you're in for a good time

10. Undertale

When a game gets the Dunkey treatment, it's probably worth picking up (and a few laughs)

The biggest indie hit of 2015, Undertale has been heralded for its soundtrack, storytelling, and perhaps most notably, its wit

Undertale details the adventures of Frisk, a human who has fallen underground into the Ruins, and must attempt to find their way back to the surface. Sounds pretty easy, right? Try adding in some talking skeletons (one of whom you can proposition for a date), dog enemies who only wish to be pet, a love affair with a singing robot, and a mouse determined to find its cheese, and you've got a game that is never short on providing a good laugh every couple of minutes. Featuring a host of unique endings, each with their own special reveals based on how you played the game, Undertale emphasizes just what it means to be human, and according to this game, means laughing quite a bit.

This game always knows to ask the important questions, like if you should befriend an eccentric skeleton

Experience a very, uh, unique battle system to say the least

9. South Park: The Fractured But Whole

How the fracturing of the two parties will be made whole is truly the driving force of this narrative

When South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone say that they believe video games are the future for the franchise, you can only expect a game that’s nothing but true to form.

After a fight breaks out between the members of the group, you're forced to pick sides as you (the "New Kid") fight your way in South Park in the sequel to The Stick of Truth. Announced a year ago in 2015, the game received a never before seen trailer at this year’s E3 expo, and touts a new combo attack system and super power abilities that match each kid’s hero identity. While not much else is known about the game at the time, you can be sure that with Matt and Trey at the helm, this game will be a necessity for any South Park fan.

Whose side will you take: The Coon or Mysterio?

All your favorite South Park super-kids are back, including Butters as his persona Professor Chaos

8. South Park: The Stick of Truth

While you're waiting for The Fractured But Whole to come out, why not experience the first game in the meantime?

Go back to where it all began as you take on the town of South Park in the Lord of the Rings inspired Stick of Truth!

Serving as an RPG from what is considered a 2.5D perspective, you begin the story as a new kid in the town of South Park, and are thrust into the battle waging between the children who live there. You assume the role of either a Fighter, Mage, Thief, or Jew (who specials in long range attacks and “Jew-jitsu”), and unlock special powers as you level up through quests and enemy encounters. And don’t you worry, you’ll have plenty of classic South Park humor along the way, as both creators Matt and Trey were involved with the creation of this game every step of the way, so what are you waiting for?

Fight against enemies straight out of the series, like the underground Crab People!

Experience a new South Park storyline not seen on television, but with the humor you've come to love

7. Day of the Tentacle Remastered

Stop me if you've heard this one: a disembodied, sentient tentacle is trying to take on the world, and it's up to you to stop him

Looking for a game with time travel, side-splitting humor, and a lesson on American History? Really? Then listen up!

Based on the hit 1993 game from LucasArts and DoubleFine, this remastered version of Day of the Tentacle promises the same hilarious dialogue and gameplay that fans of the original game have come to love. Utilizing the point and click adventure style of early PC gaming, this game relies on tongue in cheek wit and humor abound to make up for its now outdated graphics, in addition to a little history lesson on the side. Have no fear though, Day of the Tentacle promises timeless gameplay and humor that has held up more than two decades.

Hang out with Betsy Ross as you travel through time to find and beat the tentacle

Now take a nostalgic trip back through time as you experience the point and click mechanics of the 1990's

6. Monkey Island

Between the dialogue, the settings, and even just the inspiration for character names, Monkey Island delievers laughs on all fronts

When you have the genius of Tim Schafer behind your game, you’re in for a real treat.

Similar to the previous title on this list, Monkey Island is a point and click adventure from the 1990’s that features zombies, pirates, pirate zombies, and hilarious dialogue at every encounter. You assume the role of Guybrush Threepwood, an aspiring pirate, as he sets out to complete the trials set upon him by the pirate leaders of the island, all the while learning about the exploits and stories of the ghost pirate LeChuck (did I mention there were pirates in this game?).  Point, click, and laugh your way around Mêlée Island, and if you play your cards right, you’ll be a pirate in no time.

Do you have what it takes to become a pirate legend? Prove it on Mêlée Island as you hunt down treasure and converse with locals

The remastered version features updated graphics and sounds, but the jokes you've come to love from the originial still have the same charm!

5. Battleblock Theater

If the crazy characters and unorthodox gameplay get a chuckle out of you, then the narration will leave you in tears

From the creators of Alien Hominid and Castle Crashers comes Battleblock Theater, a platforming game about gems, cats, and top hats.

After being shipwrecked on a cat-infested island, Hatty McHattington has become the warden of a puzzle based prison, and it's up to you to solve the mystery of Hatty's apparent brainwashing. You’ll have an assortment of weapons to help you along your way, such as exploding tap dancing frogs, energy spheres, dart guns, acid bubbles, vacuums, and much more as you attempt to escape each puzzle by collecting gems and balls of yarn. Featuring the narrating talents of Will Stamper, Battleblock Theater is as much a stand up comedy routine as it is a game, and can be found on Steam today.

They don't just look spiffy, these frogs will run along the walls until they can find something to blow up!

Choose from a variety of heads to personalize your playthrough time and time again!

4. Who's Your Daddy?

If this thumbnail doesn't intrigue you enough to check out this game, then I don't know what will

You better make sure your diaper’s on tight in this newly released indie game.

Babies. They get everywhere, damage easily, and what's worse, always seem like they're trying to kill themselves. Your mission? Assume the role of the baby's daddy, and babyproof your house as fast as you can! In this one on one game, you go up against a seemingly psychotic baby as he tries as hard as he can to burn, shock, or bludgeon himself to death. Tired of always being the hero? Then take a turn as the baby! This constant battle between father and baby will keep you coming back for laughs again and again, as each playthrough turns out a little bit different from the one before it.

Any one of these objects could kill your precious baby

Don't forget the outlets!

3. The Stanley Parable

"It's brilliant. Why? That would spoil it, you'll just have to trust me."

This is the story of a man named Stanley

Stanley works in an office, pushing buttons on a computer as they appear on the screen, until one day, the commands stop coming in. Guided by an omnipresent narrator, you control Stanley as you make your way around the office, trying to get to the bottom of what happened to all of the other employees. What starts as a simple walk around the building turns into nothing short of a metaphysical adventure, as you begin to question the choices you make, the narrator egging you on the whole time, providing sarcastic quips every chance he gets. After a playthrough of The Stanley Parable, you'll never look at games the same way again. Want to know why? Download their free demo and see for yourself.

Find yourself stuck? Never fear, The Stanley Parable Adventure Line is here to save the day!

Well, "save" can be a tricky word to define...

2. Brutal Legend

What happens when you let Jack Black take over as the main character in your video game? Brutal Legend looks to find a (pretty hilarious) answer

Remember Tim Schafer from Monkey Island? Well he's back, and this time he's got some of his famous buddies to help him out.

Featuring the voice acting talents of some of the biggest names in rock and roll, Brutal Legend tells the story of world renowned roadie Eddie Riggs, and his truly metal journey to save the fate of music everywhere from the evil Doviculus and the Tainted Coil. After being crushed by stage scenery working a gig, Eddie’s belt buckle turns out to be a mystical amulet, and transports him to a world inspired by the artwork of heavy metal albums. Turns out you might just be the chosen hero of prophecy, and now it’s up to you to overcome the forces of evil and save your mom. The story plays out just like a Jack Black movie (think Tenacious D), and never stops providing the laughs as you and Jack fight your way through hordes of enemies as you make friends along the way. Saddle up your hot rod, it’s time to rock!

What's that Ozzy? You want me to run around with a fire sword and chop things up in the name of metal?

Well, if you insist!

1. Grim Fandango Remastered

Even though the game deals mainly with death, the jokes are still as fresh as ever!

Ok, last Tim Schafer game, I promise

Grim Fandango is a game about travel agent Manny Calavera and his job of guiding the newly dead to the Underworld. Simultaneously, it’s Manny’s job to determine what exact part of the Underworld they’re to go to: the Land of the Dead, or the Land of Eternal Rest. Good deeds in life grant you access to better travel packages, and Manny thinks he’s found a woman who can go straight to level nine. Much to his surprise, she is denied entry, and it’s up to Manny to find out why. Enjoy a story filled with line after line of one liners and quips as you venture further and further into the Underworld, and experience a true video game classic.

Grim Fandango takes the subject of Death and puts a humorous spin on it like no other game

Sometimes though, even Death has to draw the line somewhere

The final verdict? If you're looking for engaging gameplay that it is only enhanced by the addition of sidesplitting laughter, then do yourself a favor and check out the games on this list. Each brings their own brand of humor to the table, and don’t be surprised if you find yourself coming back time and time again to experience the jokes that have entertained gamers for years. Just make sure you don’t have any drinks nearby when you start: your computer might not thank you when you spray the keyboard after laughing out loud.
