So, you want to try some bloody good games? We can help you find just the right one!

Vampires are cool. There is no arguing that. It’s no wonder, then, that there are a lot of vampire games out there. Some let you play as the bloodsuckers from legend, some have you hunting them. Here, we’ve compiled a list of the best vampire games published in the past two decades. Enjoy!

10. Dracula: Love Kills

The castle of Count Dracula

Published in 2011, this is a hidden object game where you play as (surprise surprise) Count Dracula. According to the story, the Count was unwillingly put to a two-year sleep. As he awakens, he finds that the Queen of Vampires has taken over, and sets out to destroy her. The story is interesting enough, even involving some choices. For those of you who want to play as the most famous vampire ever, this game is for you.

My personal rating is 3/5.

Dracula awakens.

9. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines

Your appearance. Definitely your appearance.

If you ask anybody to name a vampire game off the top of their head, there is a good chance that you will hear Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. It is an older game, but one that has become a cult classic over the years, with many people saying that this is the best vampire game ever made. The player is given much freedom throughout the game, usually having the option to talk their way out of a situation or fight (which can be done both in melee, guns and with spells). It may not look like much today, but for its time, it was gorgeous. Although the developer Troika Games no longer exist, there is a very active community around the game.

My personal rating is 4.5/5

Those humans didn't have a chance.

8. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition

You will face a wide variety of monsters.

Castlevania is an older series, revived in 2013. It retains the old series’ style, although it is in a 3D environment this time. You will do a lot – a lot – of fighting, and some platforming. The game is fun, you will find all kinds of monsters, not just vampires. If you love arena fighters and mythology, look no further, this game was made for you.

My personal rating: 4/5

Get ready to kill.

7. DARK

Contrary to its title, you will find yourself in some very colorful places.

Published by Kalypso in 2013, DARK is a third-person action/stealth game where you play as a newly turned vampire, Eric Bane. The game has a nice style, similar to other stealth games like Splinter Cell. If you like gloomy games and third-person stealth, you will surely love this game. The story might not be the best, but it serves its purpose, and the RPG elements in the game will make sure that you continue playing.

My personal rating: 3/5

Stealth action.

6. BloodLust Shadowhunter

Bloodlust Shadowhunter has a lot of varied environments.

This one still in Early Acces, it nevertheless shows some promise. You can create your own, customizable characters and level them up. The game is heavily influenced by Vampire: The masquerade – Bloodlines, as its name suggests, so if you were looking for a new game in the same vein, look no further. Unlike that game, though, this one is in third person. Another difference is that the urban settings of the The Masquerade have been changed to dungeons. While a lot of features still need polishing, it is definitely one to keep your eye on.

My personal rating 3.5/5

Dark, fast, and dangerous.

5. The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing

Van Helsing features some huge and intricate maps.

The first entry on this list let you play as Dracula, this game lets you be his arch enemy. As the titular Van Helsing, you battle your way through the forces of Evil. The game looks and plays like the Diablo or Torchlight series, featuring a lot of enemy and loot variety. However, the game’s real strongpoint is its atmosphere. The fictional land of Borgova is a gripping place, one you will not want to leave. Definitely a must try for the lovers of Van Helsing.

My personal rating: 4/5

Borgova is filled with baddies.

4. Nosgoth

One of the classes, the Reaver.

This one is a rare gem: an online vampire game. You will play as either the monsters, of hunters. Players have the choice of eight classes (four for each side). The classes are varied, some having the ability to teleport all over the map, others with the ability of flight. The game has a dark, gritty style and a very satisfying combat engine. Oh, and the best thing about it? It’s totally free.

My personal rating: 4/5

Each class is a finely tuned killing machine.

3. BloodRayne 2

That dress does not look like it was made for fighting.

Another older title, this comes from Majesco. It is a third person action game, featuring a variety of enemies and moves, and blood. So, so much blood. The game is very gory and very brutal. You play as Rayne, a half-vampire, half-human woman, and your main goal is to hunt down your family. If over-the-top, bloody action is something you want from a vampire game (duh), this game has it in spades.

My personal rating: 3.5/5

Bloody gun fun.

2. Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain

The skull comes with the sword.

You play as Kain, a vampire lord awakened from his long slumber (this is kind of a running theme in this article). It is a third person action game, blending melee combat with light puzzles and spells. It comes from an age when vampires had long hair and wore clothes as if they were in a metal band, so, needless to say, it feels very badass to play as Kain.

My personal rating: 4/5

He's back and he's pissed off.

1. Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi

Run.

Just to get this out of the way: this game is old and it certainly looks like that. It is also buggy. But it’s one of the best horror shooters ever made. Your family arrives at a castle for a wedding a couple of days earlier than you, and, by the time you get there, it is clear that something is not right. You have to rescue each family member. The game plays from a first person perspective, but it is more horror game than shooter. Ammo is scarce, and you will be facing enemies that can kill you in seconds if you’re not careful. It is definitely worth trying out both for vampire fans and for horror fans.

My personal rating: 4.5/5

Ghouls and vampires in coffins. The whole package.
