24 years have passed since the events of Crysis 2, and super-soldier Prophet returns from his cryogenic sleep to find New York City overgrown in a lush jungle, thanks to the corrupt super-corporation CELL. With their gigantic nanodomes encompassing cities, CELL claims to be clearing out the Geth aliens, but in reality, are enslaving humans in their quest for domination. As Prophet fights CELL, he also uncovers a greater threat - the Alpha Ceph, leader of the Ceph aliens, are preparing for their final push to invade Earth.

In Crysis 3, players are left in the wilds of New York city as familiar urban environments have been run over by harsh, mutated wilderness, all brought to life by the truly cutting-edge graphical capabilities of the CryEngine 3.
