10 Awesome Upcoming RTS Games We're Excited For

The RTS genre isn’t showing any signs of slowing down, and with upcoming RTS games coming out in 2019 that are all worthy of the hype, I figured a little information about these new gems would tide all of the fans over until the New Year hits.

10. Age of Empires 4

After twelve years between installments, Age of Empires 4 is returning to PC screens to allow players to take the reins of a historical faction and take them from the Stone Age to beyond. Players can build bases and cities to produce armies, trade goods, research, and other supplies to conquer the other civilizations on the map.

Age of Empires 4 Four is in the hands of a new developer this time around, and not too much in the way of gameplay has been discussed yet. However, it has been confirmed to launch for PC the Xbox one X and S, so now all PC players who own Windows platforms will be able to get in on the action and fight either together or apart once the game is released.

9. Stronghold Next

Much like previous games in the franchise, Stronghold Next puts us in the shoes of a medieval ruler able to build villages, castles, and deal with sieges and battles. The game has been confirmed to step away from previous settings.s though, so pPlayers won’t be going to the Middle East or the shores of Europe for this one. But some fan favorite units, characters, and mechanics will make a triumphant return for the new game.

It has been confirmed that a single player, multiplayer, skirmish, and sandbox mode will all appear in the game, giving hours of fun for long-term fans and newcomer lords alike. An increased focus on castle management and economics is also a feature for the game, bringing new a balance between building your castle and defending it.

No returning to the Crusades or the Middle East for this new Stronghold title

The newest entry in the Stronghold Franchise offers more castle management just like the games of old.

8. Iron Harvest

Ever wondered if mechs would make WW1 more interesting? Well, that’s what Iron Harvest sets out to answer, as it moves to bring mechanized warfare into the trenches of WW1 in this dieselpunk Alternate History. The paintings that the game developer has done himself are what is bringing the most attention to the startup game, and it looks like it will be fun for players to command massive war machines in such a beautiful world.

Iron Harvest is an RTS and while we don’t know too much about it yet, fans have been promised a rich storyline with open and destructive levels that pit men against machine. as tThe First World War comes to an end with three factions that we know of taking control, The Saxoney empire, the Polania republic, and Rusviet. How these factions fit into the story and how players deal with them Is left to be discovered, but it’s going to be awesome!.

7. Taste of Power

Taste of power is an Indie strategy game that seeks to blend Total War and Starcraft’s mechanics together. Set in an alternate medieval history where Europe and China are set next to one another, this  causesing wacky events to occur. Ssuch as a crusade for India or a Samurai invasion of Europe. Troops are designed to have inherent strengths and weakness, and players will have to learn the moves of their enemy to be able to counter them effectively.

The game also features an expansion mechanic that focuses on building new cities.While also forcing players to divide their army and think strategically about how they defend these growing settlements from attack, forcing armies to divide, maneuver, and change their tactics at the war goes on similar to real-world conflicts. Hopefully, armchair general players can get in on the action and discover a taste of power for themselves!

6. Warparty

Set in the Stone Age of Earth, this game sees a tribe of men struggling to survive against dinosaurs and other wild beasts as they hunt for the artifacts of their ancestors. Players will be able to control their tribe and chieftain, capture and ride dinosaurs, and call upon the Gods for aid in the form of weather events and buffs to support them in battle against their foes.

The game is a base builder and army management simulator., and wWhile not too much is known about the game, it does say that proper awareness of the map, cooldowns, and unit placement will have a direct impact on your victory. It certainly sounds a lot more than just whacking dinosaurs and cavemen on the head with clubs., aAfter all, in what other game does your army ride dinosaurs?

5.Total War, Three Kingdoms

The Total War saga returns to its historical roots while also not forgetting the magical lessons taught to it by Warhammer. Total War Tthree Kkingdoms sends the game to China in the period of Feudal emperors and power hungry Warlords, while focusing on the distinct characters and relationships of three powerful generals in the period. The game has a romanticized version which sees these and other characters not only affect the gameplay on the battle map using the new duel mechanic, but their relationships also affect your overall strategy.

Do you maintain friendly relationships with your allies and hope that they send you reinforcements in your time of need? Or be the aggressor and make all of China fear your name and the sounds of your armies? The Emergent storytelling in the game will allow these and other scenarios to happen, while also providing a classic historical mode for the hardcore fans.

4. Akhenaten: Rule as Pharaoh

We’ve all heard of open-world sandbox style games, but when those games take place in a literal sandbox… then you have Akhenaten: Rule as Pharaoh. This game tasks you with building ancient Egypt from the ground up, complete with historically accurate buildings and units, a rich desert environment, and even the flooding of the Nile to prepare for.

Perhaps the most interesting aspect is the Hieroglyphic mechanic, which records your deeds as Pharaoh. Whether it is an uprising your army crushed or the consequences of a social policy, things you’ve done will be recorded as you make your mark on the sands of time.

Al War II, much like its predecessor, pits you as one of the last humans in the galaxy after an overwhelming AI takes over. While the computer is dealing with other galactic threats, you will have to gather territory, resources, and allies to end their reign. With every move by your bold human resistance, however, the overwhelming power of the computer is turned on you.

Like the first game, this game will have your forces always been outnumbered, outgunned, and reactive against the overwhelming robot horde. You won’t ever be on the AI’s level, so brute strength and epic battles will be the rarity, not the rule. With new and old units, mechanics, and music mixed together into the game, even seasoned commanders will find more challenges against the rage of the machines.

With heavy detail being used for models, ballistics, sound, and damage for vehicles, this game promises immersion, unlike any other WW2 experience. The game also promises a rich campaign packed with historical battles, full mod support, and intense multiplayer matches. This will to keep every commander completely engrossed in the game as they fight to survive the hell the war has become.
